Tucked away in the mountains of Deary, Idaho, you’ll find something unexpected: a small, family-run creamery producing some of the most celebrated artisan cheese in the country.

Curds being stirred in the vat at Brush Creek Creamery

Our story began more than 20 years ago, not in a factory, but in our family kitchen—with a few pots, extra milk from our family cow, and a desire to make something truly special. What started as a simple experiment grew into a passion, and that passion eventually became the award-winning creamery we are today.

Though we’ve grown from our kitchen into a working creamery and now send our cheese to customers across the country, we’ve never abandoned the methods that got us here. We still believe the best cheese is made intentionally, carefully, and by hand.

Every wheel or tub that leaves our creamery has passed through our hands from beginning to end. We mold it, turn it, brush it, age it, inspect it, and package it ourselves.

We work closely with the local dairy that provides our milk, paying careful attention to the health and care of the animals. From the cows in the pasture to the wheels quietly aging in our cave, we believe every detail matters.

And that commitment has taken our little Idaho creamery farther than we ever imagined.

Milking equipment and cows

In 2016, we took a chance and entered our cheese in the American Cheese Society competition for the very first time. We came home with five national awards—including three 1st-place finishes.

Since then, the awards have continued. We have been honored with a Good Food Award in New York, earned 1st place at the American Cheese Society Competition with a cheese finishing among the Top 11 Best of Show, and were named Grand Champion at the Intermountain Milk Processors Association in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Not bad for a creamery that started with a family cow and a few pots in the kitchen.

But awards aren’t ultimately why we do this. We do it because we love the craft. We love watching fresh milk become something extraordinary. We love walking into the aging cave and seeing rows of wheels developing their own character. We love sharing what we make with people who appreciate food that still has a story behind it.

So if your travels ever bring you through the beautiful mountains and rolling farmland of northern Idaho, come find us in Deary.

Come see where the cheese is made. Meet the people behind it. Experience the craft. Taste a little bit of Idaho.

Twenty years later, we’re still making cheese the way we believe it should be made:
Small batches. By hand. With patience, passion, and a whole lot of love.
